Being Like Him - a 40 Day Lenten DevotionalSample

Creativity
I believe creation of human beings by the Godhead is the highest form of creativity expressed compared to every other amazing creation. Every created thing was spoken and it came to be. However, with humans, it was different. They had an intentional discussion panel that agreed on, “Let Us create mankind in our image.” This discussion culminated into forming a man from the dust and then creating a woman out of man. Being created in the image of God, we inevitably carry in us traits of His creativity.
It amazes me when people are accustomed to certain ways and decide that they cannot be changed because it is who they are. Their customary monotonous life seems to have confined them to a track that prevents them from attempting new things or even allow growth. What stuns me, even more, is when people perceive creativity to be worldly and unspiritual.
Working with families has allowed me to see how a little bit of creativity has greatly enhanced marital relationships. For instance, in one of the couples’ camps I was invited to speak, I suggested the host arrange a candlelight dinner for the couples. Some, for conventional reasons, were opposed to the idea; one because it was a westernized idea and two because it would be silly for couples married for more than 10 years to have a candlelight dinner. Owing to my insistence, they obliged. With the limited availability of resources, a candlelit dinner with soft music was arranged. The couples exchanged gifts and the ambience did spark some romance. It made several spouses feel very special. I even saw some moved to tears when the spouses fed each other from their plates. Several of them thanked me later for the special appreciation it triggered.
To be creative like Him calls us to be creative and progressive. Creativity at home can be as small as rearranging furniture, cooking a meal, surprising with gifts or as big as planning a dream vacation to celebrate your anniversary! The attribute of creativity that God instills in us will always drive us to explore, learn and achieve new things. As children of a creative God, we can depend on God to fill us with new and creative thoughts to love our spouses and children in creative ways. It can even help us in sharing the Gospel in better ways.
The Holy Spirit is made available to us because of Jesus, who is more than willing and able to grant us creativity. Do you feel stuck in life with a lack of creativity? May we ask God today to help us?
Prayer
Lord, would you please give us wisdom and grace to be creative in the words we say and things we do. You are the source of creativity; would you enable us to try more new things overcoming the fear of embarrassment or even pride. In Jesus name, Amen.
