Failure Is Not Final

DAY 5 OF 7

According to Scripture, what are some of the steps that we can take to prevent failure?

Scripture gives us ways to prevent spiritual failure.

Good advice and accountability help to prevent failure. Asking for counsel from several advisers is more likely to bring success. Every Christian will benefit from walking in accountability with at least one person. Sometimes it is good to have more than one person who can help you. Accountability does not mean that someone lords over you. The purpose of accountability is to have people who will walk alongside you to see if there are things in your life that could harm you. These people will also support you as you endeavor to do what you believe God is asking you to do. Proverbs 15:22 - Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

Living by God’s Word will help prevent a great deal of failure. Ps.119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

How do I move ahead after I have failed? Remember that failure can be helpful. It can teach us important lessons about what to avoid in the future. We need not repeat our mistakes! 1 Corinthians 10:6-7 - These things took place as examples to keep us from craving evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were.

There is no substitute for perseverance. 2 Timothy 2:12 - If we endure hardship, we will reign with him.

Realize that God’s work is not limited by our failures. He does not reject us in our weakness but instead embraces us so that we can receive strength to be all He intended us to be. Hebrews 4:15-16 - This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses. . . . So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God . . . [to] find grace to help us when we need it most.

God has made good, wonderful and trustworthy promises to us. Rely on these promises. As you read the Word and come across promises, get into the habit of underlining them - or at least writing them down somewhere. Anchor yourself in God’s promises. By doing that, you will be anchoring yourself in God Himself. 2 Corinthians 1:20 - For all the promises of God find their Yes in him (Jesus). That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. Psalm 37:23-24 - The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand. Hebrews 13:5 - For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
