The Novelty Detox for Lent: Letting Go of Novelty and Being Present in the EverydaySample

Day 7: Reflection
It has been an intense week. We have confronted our weaknesses and laid them before the Lord.
I truly believe that He has heard our repentance, our cries, and our desire to be healed in whatever way we need. I am confident that our God is gracious, kind, and knows us better than we know ourselves.
I hope this reflection has been helpful. If you are still struggling with the concept of letting go of novelty, be reminded of this scripture as you endure: that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will renew your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Everything we are searching for cannot be found in worldly pleasures or shiny distractions. They cannot be found in constant new relationships, serial traveling, or endless scrolling, but only at the foot of the cross.
I’ve written a prayer below. You are welcome to say it with me or to pray your own.
Heavenly Father,
I thank You, Lord, that everything I need is found in You. I cannot find greater joy in shiny trinkets, golden calves, idols, fancy relationships, flashy clothing, or new places to travel; I can only find it in You.
I surrender my pain and weaknesses at the cross. You know the empty spaces I have been trying to fill with novelty. I thank You, Lord, that nothing can separate me from Your love. You have dealt with my sin on the cross, and now Your Holy Spirit guides me to live like You.
Lord, I ask You to fill me afresh with a daily desire to know You more. I lay aside my desires at the foot of the cross, and I acknowledge the power of the resurrection and the Holy Spirit living within me. This Spirit guides, teaches, and directs me—help me to listen to Your voice. Lead me to Your still waters so that my soul can be restored by You alone.
Amen.
About this Plan
