Forty Days in the Psalms

DAY 2 OF 40

With Psalm 2, we suddenly zoom out to see how God’s Plans and Power encompass not only our lives but all of Creation. We are offered a front-row seat to the conflict that exists in this world between God and the rulers and powers that resist Him.

Suddenly we see that the war we witness is just a tiny part of a plan that has been unfolding since well before we were born. Our prayers and devotion to this King Jesus set on Zion, God’s Holy hill, turn out to be much more important than we often realize!

One of the biggest obstacles to faithful daily prayer in my life is the feeling that none of it matters. Often the words of Psalm 2 have reminded me that where I set my heart each day is a way of taking a stand beside King Jesus. We can challenge that voice that says our prayers do not matter with this Spirit-inspired Truth.

Our Lord Jesus is inheriting the ends of the Earth, and in the future, He will shatter His enemies. This Psalm ends with the promise that all who take refuge in this King will be blessed. What a picture of daily prayer! We go to our knees and take refuge in Him.

In the many uncertain times I've lived through, it has been a struggle not to give in to fear or anger. This Psalm has helped me focus on Jesus and His Victory on the Cross. In that space, I have been able to bring those overwhelming issues to Him and receive His Peace.

RESPOND IN PRAYER:

  • “...be warned, oh rulers of the earth.”

If some world events or issues have brought fear or anger into your life, bring those to God in prayer.

  • “...I have set my King on Zion, my Holy hill.”

What are one or two areas in your life where you know your faith is not as strong as it could be? Ask Him to deepen your trust in the Victory of Christ and for the strength to live it out in very practical ways.

About this Plan

Forty Days in the Psalms

The Psalms were sung, prayed, and memorized by Jesus. They were a resource for Him and should be for us. While this Plan works best as a resource for Lent, it may be used in any season of life.
