5 Ways to Grow in Faith With Your Partner This Year

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Set Up a Monthly Scripture Challenge

God's Word has the power to guide, inspire, and transform. But sometimes, in the busyness of life, it’s easy to move from passage to passage without truly letting Scripture take root in your heart. That’s why setting up a monthly Scripture challenge as a couple can be such a simple yet powerful practice. Not only does it help anchor you in God’s truth, but it also strengthens your connection as you grow in faith together.

Here’s how it works. At the start of each month, choose a verse or passage that speaks to both of you. Maybe one month, you focus on love by meditating on 1 Corinthians 13. Another month, you could turn to James 1 and reflect on perseverance during trials. You can pick verses that apply to a season of life you’re walking through, align with shared goals, or simply focus on qualities you both want to cultivate.

Once you’ve chosen your Scripture for the month, commit to memorizing it together. Write it on index cards and place them where you’ll see them often — on the fridge, bathroom mirror, or even next to your bed. Share it with each other during morning coffee or a quiet moment together in the evening. Repeating and discussing the verse regularly can help it sink deep into your heart.

But don’t stop at memorization. Take time to reflect on how the Scripture applies to your lives. What is God saying to each of you through this verse? How can you live it out in your relationship? For example, if your Scripture is about patience, talk about ways God may be calling you to practice patience — with each other, with your future, or with the challenges you’re facing.

An important part of this challenge is holding each other accountable. Gently encourage one another to live out what you’re learning. Maybe it’s choosing kindness when you’d rather not or leaning into hope instead of worry. When you keep each other focused on applying God’s truth, it not only strengthens your faith but also deepens your bond. You’re reminding each other that this isn’t just about going through the motions. It’s about transformation.

Over time, this practice will create a foundation of trust and spiritual depth. It’s a reminder that your faith isn’t something you’re walking through alone. You’re in this together, and God’s Word is at the center of it all.

Today, take the first step. Choose a verse for the month ahead — a piece of Scripture that resonates with where you are right now. Write it down, repeat it, reflect on it, and live it out together. Month by month, you’ll find yourselves drawing closer to God and each other in ways you never expected.
