Acts 8:26-40 | Helping People SeeSample
Once Philip explained the good news of Jesus, the Ethiopian responds. Because the goal is not just to see, it’s to act upon what God is showing.
They see some water. The Ethiopian wants to be baptized. He wants to be fully in. When God shows you salvation, you want to be plunged into it. When you see what God is offering, you want to take hold of it. As a god-fearing Gentile who was a eunuch, he was probably relegated to the outskirts of Judaism. But not with Jesus. With Jesus, he could be fully in.
That’s the good news of Jesus. God’s salvation is for you! In Jesus, no one is relegated to the outskirts. His salvation is for everyone. That means you!
When they came up out of the water, Acts tells us that the Spirit whisks Philip away. God has done what God wanted to do. An Ethiopian is saved. God’s kingdom had come to another person. And through this Ethiopian’s witness, one wonders how many more would come to faith. (To this day, the church in modern-day Ethiopia is thriving and is one of the oldest Christian people groups.) The Ethiopian goes on his way, rejoicing. Salvation was his. And Philip goes back on his way after God’s detour. Another about-face, back north of Jerusalem once again towards Samaritan country and beyond.

About this Plan
Without God, we’re lost in the dark. God wants to show us who he is, but it’s not always easy to see. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
