The New TempleSample
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” -Matthew 6:19-21
In our lives there are many things we often wrongly prioritize to help us feel valued. Those things we place first whether that has to do with money, through athletics, school, etc. Notice how none of those things strengthen our relationship with Christ yet are things which more times than not pull us away from Him. Allowing those things to be the center of our lives will not provide the ultimate satisfaction that is wanted from pursuing them. With them in the center of our lives, we will never be truly happy, always seeking more and more. The point isn’t to suppress all desires but to rightly order those desires with Christ at the top. We need to make sure we have the right kind of wealth. Having Christ as the focal point in our lives allows us to build up that which will never perish. Our souls.
It will be so much better to invest in using our gifts, our money, our time, and the things God has blessed us with by using them to help spread the gospel, so more people can hear and become saved when they also believe in the gospel. If a stranger were to see the last 20 items you’ve purchased, would they be able to see that you’re living with the priority of investing in God’s word and His people? If we look back at verse 21 where it says,
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
This is a great reminder for us to realize that what we do with what we treasure influences the condition of our hearts, not the other way around, that’s why making sure we invest our resources in the right things isn’t something small but something that is extremely crucial. We should allow ourselves to be restored by God, so we can develop a loving heart for Jesus and properly invest in His eternal Kingdom.
