Overwhelmed No More: Balancing Life’s Changes a 5-Day Devotional Plan By: Alicia Renee’ RobertsSample
The Balancing Act
Dear Unbalanced Woman,
Have you ever seen a juggler at the circus? I recall seeing one perform, and I cringed through his entire routine. It was unnerving to know that at any time, he could lose his rhythm, drop an object, and harm himself or others.
Balancing priorities can be like juggling. We continuously toss our "to-do" lists around, giving each one just enough attention to get by. We barely keep up with our routine, and at any point, everything can tumble to the ground. This is stressful living.
How can you balance your priorities in life while making room to adjust for changes? It starts with setting realistic goals and leaving room for life to do what it does best…bring on the unexpected!
You must learn to identify what you want and need to accomplish while developing a reasonable path to get there. Give yourself a realistic timeline, check-in points, and space to adjust if needed. Remember to seek God in each step of your planning and execution to ensure that your activities and goals align with His purpose and timing for your life.
As discussed earlier, it is important to prioritize tasks and establish boundaries. We must also add time for self-care and rest. As a busy woman, I understand how difficult it is to let things go uncompleted or to say no when it seems like no one else can do the job. However, learning to pause and pick things up later will bring you so much relief.
Take the time you need. Don't be afraid to delegate and get some help completing tasks. You will not be seen as less than for using your time and resources wisely and soliciting help from others. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul" (Matthew 11:28-29 NIV).
Remember, sometimes we are stressed out and on edge simply because we need sleep or a day to rest and decompress. The Lord commands this of us. When we are weak or burdened, we should seek Him to lighten our load.
Reflection: How can you get help with your responsibilities and build in time for self-care?
