         <div class="label">1</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Solomon Asks for Wisdom</span></div><div class="p"><span class="content">  </span><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="2CH.1.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="2CH.1.1"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="2CH.1.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">Then Solomon spoke to all Israel&#8212;to the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, to the judges and to all the leaders in Israel, the heads of families&#8212; </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="2CH.1.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">and Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at Gibeon, for God&#8217;s tent of meeting was there, which Moses the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content">&#8217;s servant had made in the wilderness. </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="2CH.1.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">Now David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="2CH.1.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">But the bronze altar that Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was in Gibeon in front of the tabernacle of the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content">; so Solomon and the assembly inquired of him there. </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="2CH.1.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">Solomon went up to the bronze altar before the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> in the tent of meeting and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="2CH.1.6"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="2CH.1.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, &#8220;Ask for whatever you want me to give you.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="2CH.1.7"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="2CH.1.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">Solomon answered God, &#8220;You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="2CH.1.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">Now, </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="2CH.1.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="2CH.1.10"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="2CH.1.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">God said to Solomon, &#8220;Since this is your heart&#8217;s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="2CH.1.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. He is trained to work in gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, and with purple and blue and crimson yarn and fine linen. He is experienced in all kinds of engraving and can execute any design given to him. The Levitical priests carried them up; </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="2CH.5.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">and King Solomon and the entire assembly of Israel that had gathered about him were before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and cattle that they could not be recorded or counted.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="2CH.5.6"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="2CH.5.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">The priests then brought the ark of the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content">&#8217;s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="2CH.5.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and covered the ark and its carrying poles. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="2CH.5.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">These poles were so long that their ends, extending from the ark, could be seen from in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today. </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="2CH.5.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the </span><span class="nd"><span class="content">Lord</span></span><span class="content"> made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="2CH.5.10"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="2CH.5.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">The priests then withdrew from the Holy Place. All the priests who were there had consecrated themselves, regardless of their divisions. </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="2CH.5.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">All the Levites who were musicians&#8212;Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives&#8212;stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres.          <div class="label">3</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Day of the Lord</span></div><div class="p"><span class="content">  </span><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="2PE.3.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="2PE.3.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="2PE.3.2"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="2PE.3.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="2PE.3.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">They will say, &#8220;Where is this &#8216;coming&#8217; he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="2PE.3.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">But they deliberately forget that long ago by God&#8217;s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="2PE.3.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="2PE.3.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="2PE.3.7"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="2PE.3.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="2PE.3.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="2PE.3.9"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="2PE.3.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. You ought to live holy and godly lives </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="2PE.3.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">3:12 </span><span class="ft">Or </span><span class="fqa">as you wait eagerly for the day of God to come</span></span></span><span class="content"> That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="2PE.3.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="2PE.3.13"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="2PE.3.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="2PE.3.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">Bear in mind that our Lord&#8217;s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="2PE.3.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="2PE.3.16"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="2PE.3.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="2PE.3.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.</span></span></div>
