Day 24: 1 John 1-Revelation 2
Cole Kellam, Electrical Engineer + Levite at UPPERROOM
"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants - things which must shortly take place. He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near." Revelation 1:1-3
For most of my life, the book of Revelation was a mystery and a part of the Bible I would intentionally avoid. Whenever I tried to read these final chapters of scripture, I would become confused and frustrated as I tried to force my mind to understand. If you can relate to this, I encourage you to really take in the first three verses of this beautiful book that explain the purpose of Revelation. It simply reveals Jesus Christ and shows us the events that will shortly take place (Revelation 1:1.) As you read Revelation - the culmination of scripture - read the verses out loud, listen to the chapters, and allow the Lord to write its secrets upon your heart (Revelation 1:3.) Jesus Christ is coming again. Praise God!
Jesus is beautiful. He is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and ruler over all kings of the earth, yet still, He washed us from our sins with His own blood. Jesus, whom we pierced, has made us kings and priests to His God and Father. Jesus, who was, who is, and who is to come, is returning to finish His work and marry His church. Until Revelation, we have read books written by wise men of God, but now Jesus Christ Himself gives direction, correction, and encouragement to His bride (Revelation 2-3.)
Father, thank you for sending your only Son to die on the cross to bring us back into right relationship with You. Jesus, thank you for your humble and willing sacrifice. Holy Spirit, I pray that as we read the words of this last book of the Bible, You would illuminate truth in our hearts like never before. Lord, we love you and praise you as we await your return. Maranatha!
