He rebuilt it, roofing it over and putting its doors and bolts and bars in place. Next to him, Pedaiah son of Parosh </span></span><span class="verse v26" data-usfm="NEH.3.26"><span class="label">26</span><span class="content">and the temple servants living on the hill of Ophel made repairs up to a point opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the projecting tower. </span></span><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="NEH.3.27"><span class="label">27</span><span class="content">Next to them, the men of Tekoa repaired another section, from the great projecting tower to the wall of Ophel.</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v27" data-usfm="NEH.3.27"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v28" data-usfm="NEH.3.28"><span class="label">28</span><span class="content">Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house. </span></span><span class="verse v29" data-usfm="NEH.3.29"><span class="label">29</span><span class="content">Next to them, Zadok son of Immer made repairs opposite his house. Next to him, Shemaiah son of Shekaniah, the guard at the East Gate, made repairs. </span></span><span class="verse v30" data-usfm="NEH.3.30"><span class="label">30</span><span class="content">Next to him, Hananiah son of Shelemiah, and Hanun, the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another section. He ridiculed the Jews, </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="NEH.4.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, &#8220;What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble&#8212;burned as they are?&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="NEH.4.2"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="NEH.4.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, &#8220;What they are building&#8212;even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="NEH.4.3"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="NEH.4.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="NEH.4.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">4:5 </span><span class="ft">Or </span><span class="fqa">have aroused your anger before</span></span></span><span class="content"> the builders.</span></span></div><div class="b"></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="NEH.4.5"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="NEH.4.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="NEH.4.6"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="NEH.4.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem&#8217;s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="NEH.4.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="NEH.4.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="NEH.4.9"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="NEH.4.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, &#8220;The strength of the laborers is giving out, and there is so much rubble that we cannot rebuild the wall.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="NEH.4.10"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="NEH.4.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">Also our enemies said, &#8220;Before they know it or see us, we will be right there among them and will kill them and put an end to the work.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="NEH.4.11"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="NEH.4.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, &#8220;Wherever you turn, they will attack us.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="NEH.4.12"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="NEH.4.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="NEH.4.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid of them.          <div class="label">13</div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Jesus Washes His Disciples&#8217; Feet</span></div><div class="p"><span class="content">  </span><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="JHN.13.1"><span class="label">1</span><span class="content">It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v1" data-usfm="JHN.13.1"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v2" data-usfm="JHN.13.2"><span class="label">2</span><span class="content">The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. </span></span><span class="verse v3" data-usfm="JHN.13.3"><span class="label">3</span><span class="content">Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; </span></span><span class="verse v4" data-usfm="JHN.13.4"><span class="label">4</span><span class="content">so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="JHN.13.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples&#8217; feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="JHN.13.5"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="JHN.13.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, &#8220;Lord, are you going to wash my feet?&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="JHN.13.6"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="JHN.13.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">Jesus replied, </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="JHN.13.7"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="JHN.13.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">&#8220;No,&#8221; said Peter, &#8220;you shall never wash my feet.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="JHN.13.8"><span class="content">Jesus answered, </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.&#8221;</span></span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="JHN.13.8"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="JHN.13.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">&#8220;Then, Lord,&#8221; Simon Peter replied, &#8220;not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="JHN.13.9"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="JHN.13.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">Jesus answered, </span><span class="wj"><span class="content">&#8220;Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. </span></span><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.14.5"><span class="label">5</span><span class="content">No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">The Three Angels</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v5" data-usfm="REV.14.5"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v6" data-usfm="REV.14.6"><span class="label">6</span><span class="content">Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth&#8212;to every nation, tribe, language and people. </span></span><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="REV.14.7"><span class="label">7</span><span class="content">He said in a loud voice, &#8220;Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v7" data-usfm="REV.14.7"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="REV.14.8"><span class="label">8</span><span class="content">A second angel followed and said, &#8220;&#8198;&#8216;Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,&#8217;</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">14:8 </span><span class="ft">Isaiah 21:9</span></span></span><span class="content"> which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v8" data-usfm="REV.14.8"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v9" data-usfm="REV.14.9"><span class="label">9</span><span class="content">A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: &#8220;If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, </span></span><span class="verse v10" data-usfm="REV.14.10"><span class="label">10</span><span class="content">they, too, will drink the wine of God&#8217;s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. </span></span><span class="verse v11" data-usfm="REV.14.11"><span class="label">11</span><span class="content">And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="REV.14.12"><span class="label">12</span><span class="content">This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v12" data-usfm="REV.14.12"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.14.13"><span class="label">13</span><span class="content">Then I heard a voice from heaven say, &#8220;Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.14.13"><span class="content">&#8220;Yes,&#8221; says the Spirit, &#8220;they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.&#8221;</span></span></div><div class="s1"><span class="heading">Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress</span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v13" data-usfm="REV.14.13"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v14" data-usfm="REV.14.14"><span class="label">14</span><span class="content">I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">14:14 </span><span class="ft">See Daniel 7:13.</span></span></span><span class="content"> with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. </span></span><span class="verse v15" data-usfm="REV.14.15"><span class="label">15</span><span class="content">Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, &#8220;Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="REV.14.16"><span class="label">16</span><span class="content">So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.</span></span></div><div class="p"><span class="verse v16" data-usfm="REV.14.16"><span class="content">  </span></span><span class="verse v17" data-usfm="REV.14.17"><span class="label">17</span><span class="content">Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. </span></span><span class="verse v18" data-usfm="REV.14.18"><span class="label">18</span><span class="content">Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, &#8220;Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth&#8217;s vine, because its grapes are ripe.&#8221; </span></span><span class="verse v19" data-usfm="REV.14.19"><span class="label">19</span><span class="content">The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God&#8217;s wrath. </span></span><span class="verse v20" data-usfm="REV.14.20"><span class="label">20</span><span class="content">They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses&#8217; bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.</span><span class="note f"><span class="label">#</span><span class=" body"><span class="fr">14:20 </span><span class="ft">That is, about 180 miles or about 300 kilometers</span></span></span></span></div>
