Corporate Giving: Part III
CECP, a nonprofit that tracks corporate giving, revealed in their “2015 Giving in Numbers” survey that 85% of the companies they surveyed measure the outcomes of their charitable giving. Those who measured their results must have been pleased with what they found, because on average, these charitable companies increased their giving from 11% of revenue to 13% of revenue!
Generosity is one of the many paradoxes we discover in scripture. On the surface, it seems that if we give money away, the end result would be less for us and our shareholders.
However, 2 Corinthians 9:6 teaches, “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”
You can only expect a hearty yield if you plant generously. Generosity in profits definitely should be a goal. However, generosity with time and effort towards others will also reap well when the time comes. Employees do not leave companies because the owners noticed their efforts and poured back into them. Customers do not trade producers because the given company was too invested in the community.
In God’s economy, when we’re generous, God pours out blessings that can offset our generosity, and allow for even more generosity.
Question For Reflection
- How have you seen generosity benefit the giver? How have you been benefited by your own generosity? How has generosity improved your mindset or has it?
- What convinces you to stay with a given company either as an employee or as a customer? What companies are you proud to be associated with and why?

About this Plan
Imagine the impact Corporate America could have socially and spiritually if they gave as generously as God demanded of Israel. It’s time for a new paradigm in corporate America. Christian shareholders should begin encouraging the corporations they invest in to move towards being more generous.
