The Christ of Christmas

DAY 21 OF 25

Day 21: Prince of Peace

Peace. The longing of every heart. Every time I read the story of Jesus’ birth in Luke, the angels’ song resonates with me, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14, NKJV).

Our world could definitely use peace. Angry, turbulent, sinful human hearts cause all sorts of chaos from wars and abuse to corruption and destruction. That’s why Jesus was born—to heal broken, sinful people.

So many people talk about or even promise peace on earth, and it never happens. But true peace is attainable. It comes through Jesus, the Prince of Peace. It is the only peace that is everlasting. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The Prince of Peace came as an infant, meek and mild, to offer eternal life and a peace that passes all understanding to any person who would put their trust in Him alone.

If we want our world to have peace, we must share with them the Prince of Peace. When people are changed from the inside out through having a relationship with God, things start to change. Let me encourage you in this season where we celebrate the birth of Jesus to share what He has done by coming to earth, living a perfect life, dying on the cross for our sins, and resurrecting from the dead to offer anyone who puts their trust in Him the free gift of eternal life.

In a study we did with Lifeway Research, we found that 71% of people said that it is very important to have hope in their life. It went up to 74% for those who said that it’s important to have peace as well. And 66% said they were open or very open to having a conversation about faith with a friend.

Tell another person how having a restored relationship with God through Jesus has brought you peace. It is the best gift we can give this Christmas!

“I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”
- Henry W. Longfellow
