Peace
There are a variety of personality assessment tools that allow us to answer a series of questions that determine what our personality type is. One that has gained significant popularity over the past few years is called the Enneagram, which has narrowed down all personalities into nine distinct categories.
At the urging of one of my friends, I took the test and was not terribly surprised to find that it had classified me in the exact category I would use to describe myself. A few months later, at a holiday gathering with my adult children and their spouses, the topic of the Enneagram came up in conversation, as most of them had also taken this test. We made a bit of a game in trying to figure out each person’s personality category. I was surprised that they quickly and unanimously agreed that I am a Type 9, known as the Peacemaker. I was honestly so flattered that this was the universal impression of my personality type by my adult children.
In today’s scripture, we are reminded that Christ calls us to let peace rule in our hearts and lives. Even when it might be challenging and conflict seems to be emerging around and even within us, we can open our Bibles to God’s words from the book of Colossians and be thankful for His promise of peace.
