Two by Two (S3-E2)

DAY 1 OF 4

Psalm 3

The disciples receive a complicated task. Their feelings tell them: this is way too soon, too unclear, too dangerous, and it’s too quick to leave home again. But the Master–Jesus–gives the command, so they go.

Would you go?

And what do you do then? Do you give yourself a pep talk? Push through for a bit?

In this episode, the disciples seek each other out and recite a psalm together. They turn to the Word of God, and through God’s Word, they remind themselves who God is.

A shield.
My glory.
The one who answers.
Protector.
Savior.
The place of salvation.
And a God of blessing.

It all comes up in this psalm, and sometimes you need to be reminded of that.

This is not a pep talk from yourself, but the right perspective by focusing on what God says. You can build on that because the God who has made this true for thousands of years is still the same for you in your situation.

Where do you need a shield?
Where has your honor been hurt?
Where are you waiting for an answer?
Where do you need protection?
Or salvation?
Where can you not go without His blessing?

Turn to God. Pray it, ask for it. He hears you and He is with you–wherever you go and whatever you encounter on your journey.

One small detail: This psalm comes from a time when David had to flee from his own son. Can you imagine that? That is evil and unrest, danger coming from very close. And it is precisely then, when it is so difficult, that this psalm is an example. Direct your gaze upward, especially then, and meet your God who is ready for you at every moment.

Immanuel.

Take the following questions with you to reflect on:

  • Is there a task or calling you’ve received (from Jesus) that scares you?
  • What do you do with that fear?
  • What example do you find in Psalm 3?
  • Is there a passage from the Bible that helps you in difficult situations?

Prayer: “Lord Jesus, thank You that You are always with me. Even today, and in the difficult situations I encounter. You know them! Please help me to always trust in You. And Lord, bring me Your truth to mind when I doubt. I want to look to You. Always. Amen.”
