Jesus: The Answer to Our Search
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
(Matthew 7:7-8 NLT)
I have a question for you...
Do you think Jesus is hard to find?
Think about that for a moment.
I don’t know where you are reading this devotional from. You may be a Jesus-follower seeking to better your understanding of the faith.
You may be an atheist, firmly convinced that there is no God, but curious about the argument for faith.
You may be an agnostic, unsure of what you believe or whether there is a God out there or not.
My secret hope is that you are one of any of the above – and more!
My hope is that you are searching. Searching for the truth. You may have been offered many different routes and options to God, but I assure you, if you get serious about seeking the truth, you will find it.
As the opening scripture from today’s devotional reveals, those who ask – receive. Those who seek – find. Those who knock are answered. This is the truth.
So, what are we asking? What are we seeking? Where are we knocking?
Ask
Ask God to reveal Himself to you. God is not hiding. He is not playing with you. He is serious about having a relationship with each of His children. So, if you genuinely want to know if there is a God, ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Then keep your eyes and heart wide open as He responds.
Seek
No doubt, if you are on a path of searching, you have come across people who already have a level of faith in their lives. My advice to you in your search for truth is to seek out a person or people of the Christian faith and ask them why they believe in Jesus. I can guarantee you that they will give you wildly different yet incredibly similar answers. Their personal testimony may be what is wildly different; saved from drug abuse, alcoholism or even just boredom. But what I hazard to guess is that they will all express a deep love for Jesus, the One who saved their soul.
Knock.
If you really want to know more about Jesus and if this Christian faith is genuine, at some point along the way you will likely step foot inside a Church. This is a great place to find people who believe in Jesus and have discovered an authentic expression of what it looks like to follow Him. But more importantly, you will experience God Himself by the power of His Holy Spirit. His Spirit dwells within those who have received Him and the Holy Spirit, and there is something different about them. They exude love, peace and joy. Trust me, knocking on the door of a Church might be just the move you need to make to find out the truth about Jesus.
Father God,
I’ve come this far so I may as well keep going. Please open my heart to you. If you are the way, the truth and the life, the only way to the Father, please reveal this to me personally.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
