The Word
The apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that all Scripture is God-breathed and beneficial for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. The Bible equips us for every good work, including the vital work of speaking life-giving words within our families.
Charles Spurgeon, when asked, “What is more important: prayer or reading the Bible?” said, “I ask, ‘What is more important: breathing in or breathing out?’” He likened prayer and Bible reading to breathing—essential in your relationship with God. Just as our physical bodies need air to survive, our lives depend on the Word of God. It sustains, guides, corrects, and empowers us to live according to God's will.
As a family, consider this question: Where and when can we read the Bible together in our home? Establishing a regular time and place for family Bible reading creates a foundation of spiritual nourishment and growth. It allows God's Word to permeate your home, shaping attitudes, fostering unity, and drawing each family member closer to God.
Let your home be where the Word of God is read and lived out in the words you speak. May your family be known for speaking words that bring life, hope, and encouragement. May your family be deeply rooted in the timeless truths found in Scripture.
