The Book of MarkSample
Jesus noticed a fig tree in full leaf, so He walked over to it to find some figs. As He looked, there were none. He then says ‘May no one ever eat your fruit again,’ and the next day it was withered and dead. You might be asking - why did He do this?
What you might not know is that when a fig tree is in ‘full leaf,’ it is supposed to have figs, but this one didn’t. This is a symbol of Jesus saying don’t be fake news. In other words, God isn’t pleased when you outwardly look like you should have fruit (be a Christian), but when you get up close, you don’t (just going through the motions but not truly walking with Him).
A couple examples of what this could look like is - you come to church but don’t read your Bible or pray; or you come to the altar for praise and worship, but your heart isn’t in it, and you’re just trying to fit in.
Jesus loves you so much and wants you to have a relationship with Him, not just look like you are a Christian and go through the motions.
Question for today:
Have I just been going through the motions or letting sin keep me from being in a relationship with Jesus?
Prayer:
Jesus, I’m sorry if there is anything that I have kept from You or that has held me back from being all in. I ask You to forgive me of any sin and cleanse me. I want to follow You and not be like the fig tree that bears no fruits.
Thank You Jesus for the lessons that You give us in reading Your word that enable me to grow closer to You. I love You and thank You for loving me. Amen.
