How to Make First Dates Less Awkward and More Fruitful

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1: Comfortable Setting

“Do everything in love.” - 1 Corinthians 16:14

A first date is super important. It’s your first impression of each other and the deciding factor as to whether there will be a second date (and maybe more).

It’s important to have fun on a first date, but you also want to make sure your time is fruitful. If your goal is to find a relationship that leads to a Christ-centered marriage, every moment, every question, every conversation matters. You want to find out if you have shared beliefs, values, and goals for the future… all without getting too serious too fast.

So, how do you do it? First, choose a comfortable place and activity for your first time hanging out together.

Picking the right date activity is key to setting the mood, especially when you’re looking to build a relationship centered around shared faith and values. Planning a date that allows for meaningful conversation and connection in a comfortable environment can set the stage for a fruitful experience.

Think about places where you can talk and get to know each other. You could opt for a place that's cozy and not too loud, where you can hear each other talk, like a laid-back coffee shop or a quiet corner in your favorite park. Something like this is less formal and intense than a fancy dinner but actually gives you time to get to know each other, unlike going out for a movie, per se.

You might also consider doing something really fun on your first date. This way, even if you don’t hit it off romantically, you’ll still be doing a fun activity together to keep the mood light. Even with this approach, it’s a good idea to plan for some relaxed time afterward to have deeper conversations.

By choosing a comfortable place, you set the stage for a first date that allows for meaningful conversations and genuine connections.
