Working for God's Glory

DAY 1 OF 7

Men of Work

Men, this week, we are examining how to glorify our Father through our careers and work.

Joseph the Dreamer was alone in Egypt, a foreign land, sold as a slave, wrongfully accused, imprisoned, forgotten, and betrayed. When finally vindicated, he did not ask to return to his family for retribution against his backstabbing brothers. Ironically, he stayed with a nation that was only hostile towards him up to this point.

Moreover, Joseph was about to govern Egypt for an autocrat who declared himself a god and whose ruthless decrees and customs were in stark contrast with Joseph’s.

But Joseph trusted God and understood that God sent him to Egypt to preserve the nation of Israel (Genesis 45:7-8).

The Bible has the stories of several God-fearing men who served ruthless tyrants and kings. These heroes become successful by focusing on the Lord instead of their dire situation.

For example, King Saul became jealous of David’s success and wanted to kill him. David was on the run for years and had ample opportunity to take the throne by force but instead trusted God’s timing (1 Samuel 16-26).

Brothers, we might want to take matters into our own hands and quit a job, which might be best in your situation, but we need to ensure that it is God’s will and purpose for our career and not our own.

This week’s devotional will explore several biblical principles to help you work for God’s glory, whatever your circumstances.

On Monday, we will ensure we do not compromise our Christian beliefs to fit in with our employer. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will focus on integrity and doing our best at work. On Thursday, we will discuss compassion, and on Friday, we will make sure we stay accountable for our actions before we wrap things up on Saturday.

Prayer: Father, as men, we want to take charge and forge a path to career success. I pray that each brother who reads this week’s devotional reflects on how he can apply Your biblical principles to his workplace to glorify You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Reflection: In preparation for tomorrow’s devotional, consider areas where you might have compromised your Christian beliefs to fit into your workplace culture.
