Unlawful (S2-E6)Sample
Pieces here and there
Just a quote:
"I don't understand most of it. Pieces here and there. For the rest - I'm just following."
I think this is such a beautiful and honest rendering. What do we actually understand about God?
In Ephesians, you read Paul's prayer that we might "understand together what the love of Christ is." And then it's as if Paul stops for a moment and continues his sentence: "...the love of Christ, which surpasses all knowledge." You listen to Jesus, you are with Him. You ask Him your questions, you try to get a picture, and each time it is yet higher, different, unexpected, more beautiful. His thoughts are higher than ours. Much higher.
And then what can you do?
Give up? Then stop asking, listening, being with Him?
No! I love the quote so much - "and for the rest - I just follow Him." Following Him. Keep looking. Keep listening. Keep on.
In Matthew you read about the calling of the first disciples. They hear Him calling, leave everything behind and go with Him. Do you think they understood everything? Do you think everything was immediately clear to them? No, and right to the end you read that they often understood very little of who Jesus was and what He meant. To really understand, they needed the Holy Spirit.
So what did these disciples do? Well, they just followed. Followed Jesus. Being where He was.
It sounds so simple, but what would happen if we didn't always try to grasp things (first) but just went after Him?
What would the world see then? What would we see then?
What would we understand then?
Take the following questions to think about:
- What don't you understand about Jesus?
- What would you like to ask Him?
- Do you continue to follow Jesus even though there is a lot you don't understand?
Prayer: "Lord, to be very honest, I don't understand a lot of things. For example, I think about this [...] situation in my life. Lord, here I am. Will You teach me? Teach me to see, to understand. And if I don't understand, if I don't see it, Lord, I still want to follow You. Always. And always. Help me as a faithful disciple to follow You. Amen."
