God's Covenant
Embracing His Promises and Responsibilities
So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth”.
What is the covenant and why?
God promises,
- Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood (Genesis 8:21).
- Never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done (Genesis 8:21).
- I establish my covenant with you(Genesis 9:11).
- Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood (Genesis 9:11).
- Never again will there be floods to destroy the earth (Genesis 9:11).
- Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life (Genesis 9:15).
God's covenant is, "I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth."
The rainbow, a beautiful, multicoloured, and majestic sight across the sky, always reminds us of the promise God made to Noah the first time. He is a sympathetic and sensitive God who extends and establishes His covenant with humanity. He does not want to cut us off once and for all.
God wants to tell us that He understands our personalities. The covenant He made with each of us is that He will never again destroy all life, which reveals His compassionate heart. However, this does not mean we can incline our hearts toward evil. No, no, no.
This personally cautions us to take a stand and respect the covenant God made with us. How many times has God made a covenant with us through His Word in our lives? We read, accept, and remember it; after a while, we tend to forget it and go our own way. Often, we forget it and think that God has also forgotten us in times of need or crucial situations.
Our God is always faithful in keeping His covenant with us. He confirms this in the verse: "I will remember my covenant between me and you.”
Prayer: Lord, we believe it's essential to always remember the covenant You made with us and speak it into our daily lives, claiming and embracing it as our own. We have the right to claim and possess it. Even if we forget, we trust that You will never forget the covenant You made with us.
