DAY 5 OF 42

Day 5: Christ, the Image of God's Redemption

Discover: Genesis 1 reveals that humanity is created in the image of God, a profound mystery and truth which is best understood through Jesus Christ. Jesus is God revealed! Colossians 1:15 says, “He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Through His redemptive work on the cross, Christ restores us and empowers believers to reflect God's character in every aspect of their lives. Embracing Christ as the true image of God compels us to manifest His love, wisdom, and grace, and fulfills our vocation as God's beloved children and active participants in His redemptive mission within a fallen world. Therefore, through Christ, we not only see God's character and attributes but also His redemptive plan for humanity.

Learn: To understand Christ as the image of God's redemption reshapes our perspective on creation, the fall of humanity, and our ultimate restoration. Through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, Christ reconciles all things to Himself and makes peace through His shed blood on the cross. Christ's rescuing work goes beyond human comprehension, offering forgiveness and hope to all who believe in Him. In Christ, we find the fulfillment of God's original plan for creation, as He restores humanity to its intended purpose to glorify God and enjoy eternal fellowship with Him.

Apply: Just as Genesis calls us to reflect God's image in creation, Colossians calls us to participate in Christ's redemptive work. As image bearers of God, we are called to embody the character and mission of Christ in the world. This means living lives modeled by love, compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation. When we actively participate in God's ongoing work of redemption, we can share the message of salvation by demonstrating God's kingdom values in our relationships, communities, and vocations. When we align our lives with the image of Christ, we bear witness to God's saving power and contribute to the restoration of all things in Him. How does the awareness of Christ’s image and our call to reflect His image affect the way we live in our world today?

About this Plan

In His Image

The opening chapters of Genesis teach us fundamental truths about God. We watch Him bring light after darkness, creating something out of nothing—all through the power of His Word. Revisit familiar stories, challenge your basic knowledge, and discover deeper meanings in the text. As God reveals Himself through Scripture, we can only begin to understand ourselves when we first glimpse the character, attributes, and promises of our Creator.
