DAY 5 OF 12

The Endurance of a Diva

Ruth came from the land of Moab, a society of idol worshippers and very sensual people. She married Mahlon from Judah, the son of Elimilech and Naomi. When both her father-in-law and her husband died, Ruth decided to follow Naomi back to Judah. She became her caregiver, gleaning in the fields until discovered by the wealthy owner of the field, Boaz. She later married him and gave birth to a son who was the grandfather of David, king of Israel.

Ruth could have become paralyzed by her loss. Fear of her future could have consumed her. Instead, she chose to move forward. The courage to begin again and trust God for a new beginning empowered Ruth to move to Israel despite the threat of rejection she could face there. Her devotion and faithfulness to her mother-in-law caused her to give of herself sacrificially, and in the end, God rewarded her richly.

Whether we like it or not, even divas have storms in their lives. It’s not the severity of the storm that you should be concerned about, but rather how you weather it. Hurt, betrayal, shattered dreams, disappointments, financial struggles, broken hearts, and losses are all a part of the cycle of life. Someone once said, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” How true! No one gets to be exempt from trials and troubles, but the response to hardship separates the girls from the women, the women from divine divas.

You can either embrace your pain and squeeze the life out of it, or give in to it and allow it to consume you. Yes, you do have a choice. The most graceful people in life are those who have suffered through and endured many an ordeal. There is a sweetness of spirit, a solid grounding, an unshakeable peace that surrounds them as if to say, “Honey, I have been through worse. This, too, shall pass.” The resounding word that sums up their disposition is maturity. An integrity of soul that has been fashioned by the rough hands of life.

Div-otion

Dear heavenly Father, I will embrace every trial as an opportunity, knowing that it is working something out in me for the good, not just for myself but for the sake of others as well as for Your glory. Amen.

About this Plan

Get Divine Inspiration for Victorious Attitude

Deep inside the heart of every woman is a diva just waiting to be released. It lies underneath all of the other things she has supposedly learned about herself. Michelle McKinney Hammond shines a spotlight on fourteen women of the Bible who displayed diva-tude. In the process, she encourages women to embrace their God-given qualities and assets with the understanding that they are fearfully and wonderfully made.
