When You Feel You Are in a Spiritual Desert

DAY 8 OF 8

When You Feel You're in the Desert

In the wilderness, God reveals Himself to you. He's bringing you to a new level of intimacy with himself. In the wilderness, God will always say He loves you. And how we need it! The one single thing Christians doubt the most is whether God really loves them. We can easily believe that God loves other people but find it hard to believe that God loves "me" too – as much as he loves his other children. In the wilderness, God wants to make sure you'll hear: Remember, I loved you first. And I would love for you to come back to your first love. Come back to the One who first loved you.

Therefore, when God takes us to the wilderness, it is important to understand that he wants to demonstrate his love for us. He wants to be alone with us and to care for us with tenderness: " He found him in a desert land, in a barren, howling wilderness; He surrounded him, He instructed him, He guarded him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, He spreads His wings to catch them and carries them on His pinions. The LORD alone led him, and no foreign god was with him. He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him the produce of the field. He nourished him with honey from the rock and oil from the flinty crag" (Deut.32:10-13).

A final word: Sometimes, the desert can become a comfortable place. We want to stay there. That's when you need to remember: In the end, the desert is just sand. This is not a place to dwell. You are not called to remain in the wilderness, although God will sometimes take you there to teach and save you from yourself.

Day 7

About this Plan

When You Feel You Are in a Spiritual Desert

Sometimes, we feel lonely and confused and do not know what happened to God. Where is He? Suddenly I do not feel His intense presence. I feel like I am in a desert and do not know what I must do. There is no one to talk to, no one that understands. I cannot hear God's voice. What is going on? We trust that this reading plan will help give some guidance.
