Sermon on the Mount: A Blueprint for LifeSample
Build Your House On The Rock
If the Sermon On The Mount is one of the most significant pieces of teaching in Jesus’ life – then the closing parable of the two foundations here is a key piece of this writing. What this parable clearly tells us is that there is no fence sitting in Christianity.
Everything we do as followers of Jesus either builds a solid foundation or builds a shaky foundation... this is challenging and confronting truth... that everything in my life, everything I do, every conversation, every decision, every action is either building a strong foundation or a shaky one.
Strong foundations are built on solid footings. Dallas Willard, the discipleship master, offers a list of some key disciplines which I believe can help us in building a solid foundation.
- Bible reading
- Meditation
- Scripture memorization
- Prayer
- Worship
- Evangelism
- Service
- Stewardship of time and money
- Fasting
- Silence
- Solitude
- Journaling
- Submission
- Simplicity
Charles Spurgeon says:
“The wise and the foolish man were both engaged in precisely the same vocations, and to a considerable extent achieved the same design; both of them undertook to build houses, both of them persevered in building, both of them finished their houses. The likeness between them is very considerable.”
The question is not IF we are going to build, but HOW are we going to build.
