Laziness Is a Serious MatterSample
Comparison with Christ
Our Christian life should be measured by the standard of Christ, not by the standards of this world. Jesus calls us to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect, a high goal that requires continuous effort and dedication. Comparing ourselves to Christ is a call to holiness and excellence, far beyond the mediocrity we often accept in our lives.
Spiritual laziness often leads us to seek comparisons that comfort us in our mediocrity. We may compare ourselves to those who seem to be doing less than us, giving us a false sense of accomplishment and complacency. However, Jesus challenges us to look to the higher standard – Himself. This call to perfection reminds us that there is always room to grow and improve.
Being like Christ in all areas of our lives requires a daily commitment to follow His teachings and live according to His principles. This means being loving, compassionate, just, and merciful, reflecting God's character in our actions and attitudes. Comparing ourselves to Christ leads us to a life of constant transformation, where we strive to become more like Him every day.
The apostle Paul reminds us that, although we have not yet attained perfection, we must press on toward the goal, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. This is a journey of faith and perseverance, where each step toward Christlikeness is a step toward holiness.
Spiritual laziness hinders us from moving forward, contenting ourselves with what is good enough. But Jesus calls us to something greater – a life of fullness and holiness. We must resist the temptation to compare ourselves to the standards of the world and instead aim for the perfect example of Christ. In doing so, we experience the transformation that only He can bring, shaping us more and more into His image.
