Staying Connected to JesusSample
Jesus the true Vine
'I am the true Vine, and My Father is the Gardener' ( John 15:1)
Jesus tells His disciples that He will not be with them on earth for long. Using a parable, Jesus explains to his disciples how they can still stay connected to him and how important that is. Here Jesus compares Himself to a Vine and His Father to a Vinedresser (the planter and manager of a vineyard). One vine can produce many grapes.
In the first part of the Bible, the people of Israel were portrayed as God's vineyard: It was God's desire that the Israelites would show in their lives that they were connected to the Creator of heaven and earth and that He was present among them (Psalm 80:8-9). But the Israelites had been like a vine with little or no fruit.
Jesus calls Himself the true Vine. As the Son of God, He is the only One who is as God intended man to be. Jesus' followers are the branches that grow from this true Vine. The connection with Jesus creates a living relationship between Him and His followers. And this relationship becomes visible in the fruit that the branches on the Vine produce.
