5 Days to a New Reality of Trust, Connection, and Authenticity With GodSample

Something Greater
Like many other people, I experienced some turbulent times at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. Our world (both the literal world and my personal world) got completely turned upside down, and I went through a lot of anxiety and sadness. There were so many positive things happening going into 2020, and they all came to a standstill. I wondered if the “momentum” was lost forever. I had to intentionally choose to trust that God was still at work. It was so much easier to give in to doubt and desperation.
When society started to open back up, one of the first things I did was write a song called “Something Greater.” It was inspired by my experience of leaning on God’s promise of a new day, even when the night seemed so dark and was lasting so long.
“I might not have eyes to see it
But give me the faith to believe it
I know You’re up to something
Something greater”
I find it really powerful to make a declaration of faith over my life and my circumstances, even when the evidence isn’t there.
“To love involves trusting the beloved beyond the evidence, even against much evidence.” C.S. Lewis
Worship isn’t always about singing what I believe. Sometimes it’s singing truth over myself so that I can find belief again. I sing truth until I believe it, and I sing it again because I forget.
The beauty of Christian hope is that our hope isn’t tied to a particular outcome, it’s tied to a person. Since His ways are above our ways (Isaiah 55), we shouldn’t be concerned when things aren’t going our way. God is creative, He is faithful, and He loves us. He can handle the curveballs, He keeps His promises, and He is working for our good.
As long as Jesus is in it with us, there’s nothing we can’t face.
