ApprovedSample
We all crave approval. Whether we’re scrolling through Instagram comparing our unfiltered lives to someone else’s filtered feed or building a huge Snapchat streak with friends, we’re ultimately looking for someone to accept us. And that’s when this appetite for approval creeps in.
Seeking approval leads us to ask questions about ourselves like “Am I good enough?” “Do I have what it takes?” or “Will anyone like me if they know the real me?” The problem with these questions, and with seeking approval from others, is that we’re looking for approval in all the wrong places.
We’re using the number of likes we get like they’re stats about how many people like us in real life. We’re using how many followers we have on social media to find our popularity ranking. We’re looking for approval from our friends and our families, and we start thinking that if we can just get better grades, find more friends, or be better at sports that more people will approve of us.
But here’s what you need to know: As a Christ-follower, you don’t have to look for the approval of others because you’re already approved by God. There’s absolutely nothing you can do to make God love you more or less. So instead of living for the approval of people, you can start living from the approval of God.
Challenge: Pick a Scripture that reminds you who God says you are. Write it down and read it every day this week.
Key Scripture: Galatians 1:10, Ephesians 2:10, Romans 12:1-2
