The Importance of the HeartSample

The Importance of the Heart

DAY 1 OF 6

Before we start with the heart, we will first look into some other parts of our existence: spirit, soul and body. This way, we can rule out what the heart is not.

Let’s start right away: the word ‘body’ does not exist in the Hebrew Bible. The concept of having a body comes from the Greek word ‘soma’. And soma comes from the Hebrew word NEH’FESH. But… soma does not mean body, but soul and the word describes what is visible to a human. So, from a Hebrew perspective, the soul is part of the visible.

However, the Greeks have separated the soul from the body. If you look at the Western society we live in, you see this thought has been more intertwined into our culture.

Taking from Hebrew (which is the language that these concepts are based on) our souls (the visible) can be filled with the invisible: the spiritual. It is important to be aware of this. In our current Western culture, I think it’s maybe even more important than ever. We are constantly being stimulated with things beyond our control, and our hearts are influenced by them.

Back to the beginning, when God breathed life into humans the Hebrew word “NESHAMAH” was used:

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (NESHAMAH), and the man became a living being (NEH’FESH).” - ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬

Which invisible things influence your heart on a daily basis? I encourage you to make the conscious choice to let your NEH’FESH be NESHAMAH by God. Pray: “God, please NESHAMA my NEH’FESH with Your breath of life.” 🌀
