Being The Light as an Ambassador
No one in history has represented God more perfectly than Christ. Through Him, people could experience God’s generosity, His presence, and His love firsthand. Jesus is a perfect representation of God’s character and His intentions toward humankind. Considering how perfectly Jesus reflected God to the world, it is incredible to think how Jesus calls ordinary, flawed people like you and me to also represent Him. Jesus did not know sin. He did not seek His own welfare. He lived in service to others, and by His words and deeds delivered a message that perfectly reflected the heart of God.
Paul wrote to an early group of believers, encouraging and challenging them to understand how all of us who follow Jesus are His ambassadors. Like ambassadors sent from their home country, we should consider ourselves to be sent out to represent Christ’s kingdom, its values, and its message. Anyone who meets an ambassador of another nation should also be able to understand what our country is all about. We have talked about how when you believe and put your trust in Jesus, you are rescued from a kingdom of darkness and restored to a kingdom under the loving rule of Christ (Colossians 1:13). In the same way that people would be able to learn about this kingdom when they met Jesus, you have the opportunity to show and teach the people you meet about the loving King Jesus.
Even with the good things in this world that reflect the kingdom of God, it still reflects a place that does not recognize Jesus as Lord, and, as a result, is filled with brokenness.
But believers belong to a King whose reign is good and who wants the best for us. We live life daily among people and places that don’t recognize Jesus as the good King He is—someone who is worth submitting to fully and trusting His authority. As you live with Christ as your King, you represent the true country/kingdom you belong to.
Consider what others might see and learn about your home country of heaven by looking at you. What is most important there? Who is most important there? Does your life represent the peace, love, joy, and hope Jesus displayed that revealed His kingdom to others?
Prayer
“God help me represent You and Your message well as your ambassador in this world.”

About this Plan

Helping others explore, respond, and grow. Jesus tells us in the Great Commission that we are to go and make disciples of all nations. But how does a follower of Jesus make disciples? This reading plan gives a biblical framework for how believers teach others to obey everything Jesus commanded, both in their personal walk with Him and with a community of believers.
