Mental Health: Saying Goodbye to StigmaSample

Mental Health: Saying Goodbye to Stigma

DAY 4 OF 10

Day Four - Bringing God into the Conversation

Revelation 3:20 - “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

I heard a very wise statement once. It goes something like this:

‘Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.’

This statement can also be found in other terms in Proverbs 13:20 - ‘Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.’ (NLT)

There is no other friend like Jesus.

He is faithful, wise, trustworthy, honest and kind.

You truly can’t compare Him to anyone else.

Having Jesus on your side as you walk through any journey is the ultimate blessing. It is invaluable during a journey through mental health or illness.

If you don’t yet have a friendship or relationship with Jesus, I pray that you will have gained enough awareness, understanding, and encouragement to give Him a chance by the end of this devotional.

Jesus is a gentleman. As is God. As is the Holy Spirit. No part of the Trinity will force their way into your life. They gently, calmly, and patiently stand at the door of your heart and knock. If that knock has become loud for you lately, take it as a sign that you are being pursued! I cannot recommend enough answering that knock with a wide-open door.

I could not have navigated the twists and turns of illness and recovery without knowing Jesus. I bring this up on day 4, straight after inviting you into my journey, because I believe that true healing, wholeness, and wellness are found in Christ alone.

I am not here to persuade you to become a follower of Jesus. That is not my job. But I do encourage you to begin a conversation—either with Jesus directly through prayer or with a close friend or relative who you know knows Jesus—where you can explore what it means to invite Jesus into your journey of life and health.

For those of you who know Jesus and consider yourself one of His followers, praise God! Maximise this relationship! Do not go a day without asking Jesus for wisdom. He is your greatest ally on the road to health and recovery.

So, with that being said, let’s progress in our conversation on how to walk this journey to mental health with Jesus.
