Walking by Faith One Day at a TimeSample
Introduction:
Sometimes we can wander through life in complete darkness, unable to see the next step that is before us. Lack of direction can be tiresome, frustrating, and discouraging, especially when we are in the middle of the darkness. But God's Word encourages us to walk by faith—not by sight.
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1).
Walking by faith is the essence of our journey with God. He wants us to keep our eyes fixed on Him, trusting Him to lead us step-by-step and day-by-day.
Of course, just because God calls us to walk by faith doesn't mean it's easy. As a matter of fact, walking by faith is hard. It can even feel scary at times.
So, what can we do when fear, discouragement, or doubt set in?
We must cling to Truth! God provides some wonderful counsel in His Word to usher us from darkness into His wonderful light.
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105).
"Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell" (Psalm 43:3).
Years ago, I did a Bible study called Walking by Faith: Lessons Learned in the Dark by Jennifer Rothschild. If anyone understands how difficult it is to walk in darkness—it is Jennifer. During her sophomore year of high school, Jennifer noticed that her vision was slowly deteriorating. Upon visiting a specialist, she learned that she was suffering from a degenerative eye disease—one that would eventually cause complete blindness. Talk about an uncertain future.
Jennifer learned first-hand how challenging it can be to walk in darkness, and yet she did not let her physical handicap keep her from living an incredible faith-filled life. Today, Jennifer shares her many lessons learned in the darkness and testifies how God is shaping her into the woman He wants her to be.
We, too, can walk by faith, day by day and even moment by moment. When we can't see ahead, we must listen for God's direction and rely entirely on His lead. The Lord goes before us and will get us where we need to go. As we move forward, placing one foot in front of the other, God will either shed light on our present path or point us in a different direction.
Like Jennifer, we must learn to walk by faith, not sight.
I invite you on this journey towards a deeper faith and bolder journey with God. Each day of this plan provides relatable stories, biblical truth, life application, and faith building prayers to encourage you to grow and walk out your faith one day at a time.
Let's get started!
