Living on the Other Side of Fear by Matt Bromley

DAY 4 OF 4

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE FACE OUR FEAR?

Jesus faced His fear – and won our freedom

In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was praying – and He was terrified.

He knew what lay before Him: the flogging, the betrayal of His friends, the cross and the weight of all mankind’s sin heaped upon Him.

He was about to face His fear in a big way.

In fact, Jesus was so terrified that in the gospel of Luke it says that He actually sweated blood. This is known as hematohidrosis, which is a very rare condition of sweating blood that can happen in severe shock. He knew what was coming yet He continued to walk in God’s will.

Jesus’ last prayer with His disciples before He went onto crucifixion is this, from

John 13:31 (NIV):

“Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him.”

Jesus’ purpose was to redeem us to the Father. To take our place on the cross, wash us clean of sin and draw all those who believe in Him to Himself and welcome us into the most beautiful love relationship with Him.

It was through the cross, that all of humanity had hope.

And it was not until death was conquered on the cross, that Jesus was glorified and His purpose on earth fulfilled.

It was on the other side of His fear that His purpose came alive.

Our best moments lie on the other side of our fear.

When we face our fear, our purpose comes alive.

The Lord calls us to venture out into the deep.

Fear is always creeping at the door…But the Lord desires that we have peace even in the storms.

We may think: Nothing’s gonna happen through me...who am I?

But if we’re just willing to step out in faith, then we get to be a part of these beautiful moments where heaven touches earth.

We cannot let fear cause us to live a small life. God has so much in store for us!

He desires for us to live in freedom, and He is working in us a beautiful purpose that lies on the other side of fear.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you that you braved the cross for me. I lay my fears at your feet. Silence the lies and doubts in my mind. I believe the battle belongs to you. You are strong enough to conquer my fears. I give them to you. Use me now, powerfully, for your purpose and for your glory in Jesus’ name.
