Daily Direction Reading Plan

DAY 237 OF 365

Halley’s Comet last appeared in our solar system in 1986. It will reappear in the year 2061. Scientists can predict the time of its arrival based on its travel history. Scientists can also forecast weather, even hurricanes, but no one can predict when Jesus Christ will appear. We know He will return, but we do not know when that will be. Jesus Himself said so. We read in Luke 12 where Jesus talked about the timing of His return. He urged people to get ready and stay ready. He said, “Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. He will reward the servants who are ready and waiting for his return. I tell you the truth; he himself will seat them, put on an apron, and serve them as they sit to eat. He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” In view of Christ’s certain but unpredictable return, we should get ready and stay ready by accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, and by seeking to do His will each day of our lives.
