DAY 110 OF 365

To say that we live in times of adversity is to state the obvious. Our world constantly faces a myriad of challenges: economic, social, political, and safety issues. How can we deal with such issues and keep our sanity? Here's good news: God's Word offers a coping strategy to His people. In 1 Thessalonians 5, the Apostle Paul sums it up in three words: faith, love, and hope. He writes, "Let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet." How does this work? When we exercise faith in God's Son, we are made right with God and we gain access to God's unlimited resources. This does not mean, as some teach, that we can "name it and claim it." But when we in faith align our wills with God's will, we gain access to God's resources to do His will. Jesus said, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Love is that virtue God tells us to exercise toward Him and others. When we love God with all our being, we are at peace with God. When we love people and show them kindness, we will have peace with them. Hope sets before us an unlimited and attainable future. Our future is secure because God who has promised it is faithful. Since God's Son paid our sin debt, we confidently serve today because we know that whether we live or die, we will always live together with Him.
