DAY 5 OF 5

Influences:

Proverbs 13:20 “ Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Every day, we are influenced by everything we experience, whether we realize it or not. Take a look back at your day from the moment you woke up. What was the first thing that influenced you? Did you check social media? Did you turn on the news? Did you quickly glance and see a stressful email? What we prioritize is what will influence us. I had to make a conscious decision to not check social media or work emails first thing but instead get up and read my devotion. I want the first thing to influence me is God’s Word, not endless doom-scrolling.

If we start off our day choosing to put God first, that action will have a chain reaction to the rest of our day, week, and life. It’s often the little decisions that make the biggest impact in our lives if we see the importance of what is influencing us daily. Little decisions add up to big problems if we do not swarm them at the start. Before it leads to a major life impact, check what is influencing you and determine whether it is changing your attitude for the better or not.

Practice: How do we know if our influences are godly or not? Check how you respond after you spend time doing that thing or with that person. Did you feel exhausted? Angry? Inspired? Hopeful? What are the actions steps you take after you have been influenced?

Prayer: God, we pray that we can recognize our godly influences and the people you have purposely placed in our lives to draw us closer to you. We also pray that we can be the right influence towards others who trust us to help them in their walk of faith.

Day 4

About this Plan

Living Lighter

This is a five-day devotion to help lighten the pressures of life and minimize the stresses we put on ourselves. Everybody experiences stress, but how can we lessen the load so that we are not treading water? We were designed to experience life to its fullest, not barely getting by. This devotion will help the reader determine what steps they need to take to eliminate unneeded worry.
