A Real Good Life by Sazan and Stevie Hendrix

DAY 3 OF 5

There’s something that I’ve been learning. It’s taken me a while because it seems counterintuitive to what we’re often taught about achieving the good life. And that’s the power of going slow.

To grow, go slow.

I know, that probably doesn’t match up with what that Grow Your Online Business at the Speed of Light digital course had to say. You’ve probably had a full helping, just like I have, about getting up earlier than everyone else, hitting the day with a good dose of brutal, gasping cardio, using the planner that plots out every second of every day, and getting your inbox to zero before you hit the pillow at night.

Is discipline a component of the good life? No doubt. But did you ever think about this? It takes discipline to go slow.

I love to work out. But I can remember times that, in the name of being efficient and in light of a packed schedule, I would hit the gym and do weights like I was on helium. I could whip through a lifting list like nobody’s business. But guess what? Trainers tell us that the best growth comes when we slooooow down, when we make our muscles work the full scope of lifting that weight and then we control, control, control putting that weight down. That’s when the real growth begins. And that takes a level of discipline that our culture doesn’t always value.

The discipline to take your time. The discipline to choose a different pace than the rest of those in the race. . . .

Rest is a risk. A reasonable pace is a redeeming perspective. When the pace is right, you can see your life as you live it, instead of the days becoming a blur as you speed past.

So pick a good pace, one that matches your season of life, one that lets you rest and play and work in equal measures. Just like your heartbeat, there’s a beat you were created for. And it’s a good one.

Prayer

Lord, it is sometimes difficult for me to slow down and rest. Please help me find a pace that allows me to make the most of the time and opportunities you have given me. Amen.
