The Gospel of MarkSample
Verses 32-38 are a great takeaway from this passage for us. Jesus was warning his followers to live ready for the events that led to the destruction of the Temple. As we await Jesus’ return, we should also live ready. We do not need to get caught up in speculation or conspiracy, but to “stay awake.”
In all of the complexity of the different interpretations that sometimes surround this passage, we can have a very simple, and yet no less profound, takeaway:
As we step into housing the presence of God, we will naturally bear the fruit that the Spirit brings. We don’t need to focus on knowing the right things about the return of Jesus in order to be ready for it, but to cultivate a deep relationship with him, the fruit will do the rest.
