The Gospel of MarkSample
As Jesus sat and watched the crowds bring their money to drop in the collection box, we notice that the size of the offering isn’t what became noteworthy to Jesus but it was the amount that widow gave (perhaps our equivalent of putting $1 in the collection plate) being all that she had to live on. Showing that her dependence wasn’t in our money but in the Lord to provide for her every need.
[The ancient Greek word lepton literally means “a tiny thing,” and so in the Old English was translated mite, which comes from the word for a “crumb” or “very small morsel.”] (Guzik)
“Others gave out of their abundance but she gave sacrificially.” (Guzik)
What does it look like for you to give with a cheerful heart in a way that leaves you dependent on the Lord?
