The Life of David

DAY 16 OF 28

Day 16: 1 Sam. 31 and 2 Sam. 1 x Julian Gamboa, Associate Prayer Room Director at UPPERROOM Dallas

THE KING IS DEAD.

Strong intro, right? I thought so, too.

These two chapters are pivotal in David's life because he will now become what he knows he was anointed to do.

DESTINY FULFILLED.

THIS IS HIS MOMENT.

What is David's reaction in this moment? He mourns and honors the late king. His first act as king is one of the most impactful parts of David's life. A natural reaction is celebration, or maybe 2 Samuel 1 could have been written about how excited he was to finally become king. But we see a truly mature and kingly response from David. He didn't need the affirmation of a crown to make him king. I'll leave you with this reflection as you read these two chapters:

How would you respond in a moment where your life calling is about to be fulfilled?

Prayer: Lord, I pray for every reader engaging in Your word today. I pray that You teach us to lean on You in trials. Just as trials made David the king he became, so do the trials we face day in and day out shape us into who You say that we are. I pray for strength to those facing impossibilities. Lord, reveal Yourself to Your sons and daughters this day. Amen.
