Priesthood of Every BelieverSample
Lesson 4: The Great Commission
Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 1:8 present the Great Commission, Jesus' directive to His disciples, charging them to "go and make disciples of all nations." This command extends beyond the original apostles to all believers, anchoring our collective mission as members of the royal priesthood. This lesson unpacks the significance of the Great Commission in the life of every follower of Jesus and its intrinsic connection to our priestly identity.
The Great Commission is not merely a call to evangelize but to disciple — inviting individuals into a transformative journey of knowing Jesus, obeying His teachings, and making more disciples who will know Jesus, obey his teachings, and multiply. As priests in God's kingdom, we are equipped and empowered to guide others in this journey, sharing the message of salvation, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey the truths of the Scripture. This mission transcends cultural, geographical, and social barriers, emphasizing the universality of Jesus' message and the inclusivity of His love.
Fulfilling the Great Commission requires courage, obedience, and reliance on the Holy Spirit. It challenges us to step out of our comfort zones, engage with the world around us, and be intentional in our relationships. By doing so, we proclaim the Gospel and embody it, living as visible representations of Jesus' love and sovereignty on earth.
This priestly calling to make disciples is a shared responsibility, reflecting the communal nature of the church. Together, we work to expand God's kingdom, supporting and encouraging one another in this sacred task.
Action Step: Pray for an opportunity to share the Gospel this week. Seek the Holy Spirit's guidance for the right moment and words. When the opportunity arises, embrace it with faith, trusting that God will work through your obedience to impact someone's life for eternity.
