UNPACK This...March Madness and God's Matchless PowerSample
Greatness
Upsets are undoubtedly one of the best parts of the NCAA Tournament, but for those upsets to take place, a higher seed has to fail to live up to the hype and expectations.
When we look over the bracket at the end of every tournament, we find countless teams that appeared promising heading into the competition but ultimately failed to deliver. In the end, all of the hype ended with a big thud.
An important parallel for us to consider is how we often pick things to focus on or put our trust in that sooner or later let us down. What we think is a “top seed” can become an idol if we aren’t careful.
However, as we experience these idols, we realize they don’t live up to the hype. Some of these things are temporarily great, but can’t hold up to being the “champion” of our life.
Ultimately, they are disappointments if we elevate them in a way they don't deliver. Thankfully, we can stop picking these idols and instead choose the only One who is truly great…and always great.
Psalm 96:4 says, “Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.”
God’s greatness is undeniable, and yet there are times we don’t recognize His matchless power and indescribable dominance over every other idol.
He has separated Himself from every “thing” that we mistakenly think will satisfy. It’s not even close! He is unstoppable and continues to remind us of how great He is and always has been.
God says in Isaiah 42:8, “I am the Lord; that is My name! I will not give My glory to anyone else, nor share My praise with carved idols.”
Today, let’s be reminded that the more we turn our eyes toward God and get to know who He truly is, the more it becomes apparent that no one can compare!
I’m Bryce Johnson, and you can UNPACK that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, forgive me for overlooking Your greatness and settling for lesser things that don’t bring satisfaction. I want to put my hope and trust in You alone because I know You always deliver. You are worthy of my praise and my full attention. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
