Prayers to Change a Nation

DAY 1 OF 3

Are you desperate for God?

America is consumed with constant and distracting noise. Our culture is oversaturated with opinions, talking heads, clickbait, social media, entertainment, music, and more. This noise consumes our thoughts, our minds, and our souls from being able to hear from God, or at times to even think straight. Anxiety is at an all-time high in every sector of our society – from teenagers to grandmas.

Throughout our nation, this noise is attacking the souls of people who are attempting to live their lives in peace. Those of us who love the news and politics wonder why everyone is not staying up on the latest happenings like we are, but most people are desperately trying to stay away from fear.

While working on my very important future career field – political science – I barely ever opened the Bible. I was, instead, diligently reading my textbooks and being a busy business owner, college student, and most importantly – a wife and mother. I let everything else fill my days. I didn’t read the Word of God or spend any real time with Jesus. This was all while I was leading worship every week on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings at a local church. The travesty of that season was that I was leading Christians into the presence of God, but I hadn’t spent any time in His presence myself.

I suddenly woke up one day realizing that I hadn’t cracked open the book – The Bible – that I said I loved, for a very long time.

So, “as the deer pants for the water brooks” (Psalm 41:1), I started gradually feeding myself again the Word of God. It was hard at first.

When you have been away from the “water brooks” for a time, you don’t realize how dehydrated you are.

How desperate and dehydrated are you for God?

If a man does not remain in Me, he is thrown out as a branch and withers. And they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you. – John 15:6-7

I began starting every day with a prepared Bible Study, then started re-reading whole books of the Bible. A year later, I started to write my discipleship training manuals. I had been revived.

What is God speaking to you today?

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. – John 10:27
