What Jesus Said About Himself as the Son of God

DAY 2 OF 7

Who is Jesus?

For centuries before his birth, the Old Testament predicted his coming. The New Testament tries to describe Him – but cannot find enough words to do so. But enough is revealed to us to know who He is, to be saved from our sins, to know how to follow Him, live a life of meaning, and to understand where we are going.

We first need to establish for ourselves that Jesus is God: He is the Son of God (John 1:34). We have the following statement in John 1:1-3 that confirms that Jesus is the Creator, was there from eternity and that He is God: All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. I AM – In John 8:58, Jesus calls Himself I AM. This is the same name that God used for Himself in Exodus 3:14-15. We also read that He is Adonai (Sovereign Lord; Master) (Genesis 15:2, 8). Almighty (Revelation 1:8). Creator of all Things (Colossians 1:16). God of Eternity (Isaiah 26:3). His Only Begotten Son (John 3:16). Son of the Most High God (Mark 5:7). He is the true God and eternal life (1 John 5:20).

But Jesus is also Lord. He is sovereign. He rules. He is the Eternal Judge. He is Christ the Power of God (1 Corinthian 1:24). Judge of the Living and the Dead (Acts 10:42). The Lord God Omnipotent (Revelation 19:6). The Lord Most High (Psalm 47:2). Lord of All (Acts 10:36) and Lord of All the Earth (Zechariah 6:5). He is the Lord of Lords (Revelation 17:14). The Lord our Maker (Psalm 95:6). The Lord Who Created the Heavens (Isaiah 45:18). The Lord our Redeemer (Isaiah 43:14). The Ruler over the Kings of the Earth (Revelation 1:5).

Which Name of Jesus stands out for you from today’s study? When you think about these names, how does it affect your understanding of who Jesus is?
