From Death to Life | 40 Days of Dying to Self and Living for Christ

DAY 5 OF 5

The season of Lent invites us to reflect on our sin and the ways in which we have fallen short in our obedience to the Lord. But Lent also invites us to fix our eyes on the cross and the resurrection, remembering the salvation and eternal life we have through Christ. While Lent and Easter are special times to reflect, remember, and rejoice, the truth of Christ’s death and resurrection should always be in the forefront of our minds as we go through our whole year. Not only this, but the truth of our eternal home should also be front and center. The truth about our eternity with Christ reminds us that, though we wrestle with sin now, we have hope that one day we will be without sin, in a world without sin, forever.

It is so comforting to know that Jesus gives us forgiveness for our sin, but we still live in a sinful world. We still wage war against the sin in our hearts. Having to keep living in a sinful world and fight against our sin can feel exhausting and discouraging. This is why it is so important that we fix our eyes on eternity. When we fix our eyes on eternity, we are reminded that our time in this world is but temporary. Passages of Scripture that speak about eternity, like Revelation 21, help us rest in the truth that Jesus is coming back. When He returns, He will rid this world and our bodies of sin and make all things new.

The truth that Jesus will make all things new brings hope to our current circumstances. The hope of eternity keeps us from feeling defeated about our sin and encourages us to keep fighting our sin. The hope of eternity helps us to keep living in this broken world with peace, knowing that Jesus will return. One day, we will live in a world without sin and brokenness. The war against our sin will come to an end. May these truths be on our hearts and in our minds this Lent season and beyond.

Reflect and Respond

How can you remember the hope of eternity daily? In what ways can you live in light of your eternal hope?

About this Plan

From Death to Life | 40 Days of Dying to Self and Living for Christ

Lent is a time when we prepare our hearts for Easter, often by reflecting on our sin and the sacrifice Jesus made for our sin. While it can be hard to reflect on our sin, doing so causes us to be even more grateful for the grace of Christ. In this five-day plan, we will consider the seriousness of our sin while also fixing our eyes on the gospel...
