Leadership: How Jesus LedSample
Jesus was faithful in the small.
Whether you are leading a large team or family, or leading yourself, these are crucial principles that will allow us to grow into all that God has for us. The Bible tells us that those who steward well what they have been given now will be blessed with more. So if we are wanting to grow in leadership, it starts with recognizing what “small” things God has given us now and how we can show ourselves faithful to be entrusted with more. (Matthew 25:21)
One area that we are all leaders in, is towards ourselves. You are in charge of yourself, your thoughts and actions, and how you position yourself towards God. As you learn to lead yourself well, evidence of growth will flow out and into the relationships around you. You can only lead and make an impact from what you have spiritual authority in; and you gain this authority by doing what you know is right and true. If you aren’t walking in personal integrity and leading by example, you aren’t able to lead from truth!
Pause and ask God how you are doing in leading yourself. Is there anything that God highlights to you that you have not been doing well? Are there any areas of your life that you wouldn’t want those who look up to you to mimic? If anything comes to mind, take this time to ask for forgiveness and receive His grace to make a change.
What other “small” opportunities for leadership has God entrusted you with? This could be a few coworkers or project team members, maybe a position in your community or family members that look up to you. How are you doing in your leadership? Pause again and ask God to show you ways that you are doing well and ways that you can grow. You may want to journal these to track what He speaks to you over the coming days!
