ADVENTure: The Loud, Noisy, Roaring, Life Changing, Not So Silent NightSample
The Adventure:
Have you ever been to a professional basketball game? One thing you might notice is it gets loud. They even have signs for when you should get loud. One of those most important moments is when someone is shooting a free throw. For non baskteball people a free throw is when a single player stands in front of the goal and has one to two chances to score the ball with no one guarding them. It is basically a free point. But one thing sports arenas do is they ask the audience to get as loud as possible to they get distracted and miss the shot.
Sometimes life can feel like that. You are trying so hard to focus on school, sports, friends, family, or faith but the world is so loud. There are so many problems it is breaking your focus. We have talked already about how the world is loud and messy because of sin. It is hard to even hear ourselves think much less hear God. But the verses for today show how Elijah was able to hear God. He didn’t listen for God in the big booming events Elijah heard God in the quiet.
A lot of our lives are so busy and loud we miss out from hearing from God. I want to challenge you this Christmas season to make space for God to speak. I know that is hard when everyone is running around like crazy during this time of year but trust me this is worth it. It can be as simple as driving in silence instead of with the radio on. It can look like waking up 15 minutes earlier to pray and read your Bible. It can look like taking time at lunch to pray and pause before you start eating.
Making space for God to speak and also for you to listen will change your life. Life can be busy but we as followers of Jesus can sacrifice to listen to our God.
The Destination:
Jesus is the one we listen to. He has the words of life. Jesus loves us so much that He gave us the path to walk that leads to life. That path or that way is Jesus. To follow Him. He loves you so much that he chose to die for our sins so they can be paid and we cna be back in friendship with God. Now that we are in friendship with God we can listen to Him. Christmas is the celebration of the one who is worth listening to.
