God Comes To The Rescue
Adam and Eve had a good thing going at Eden. A great relationship with their Maker, authority over every living and breathing creature, untouched beauty all around them and no added expense on clothing. They were unhindered by guilt, shame, negativity, or fear. Imagine living like this. It’s the very picture of perfect bliss. All of it changed in an instant because of a doubt that was sown, a lie that was believed and an act of disobedience that couldn’t be reversed. All seemed lost -- the seamless, intimate relationship between man and God was broken and the perfect world looked cracked and flawed now. What a tragedy -- yet all was not lost. God, like the perfect parent that He is, had a plan that immediately took effect. He clothed the man and woman in animal skins so that their shame was alleviated and then sent them out of Eden into the world beyond it.
The unsaid yet obvious fact is that this was the first of many rescues that God would orchestrate to save His people from the consequences of their own sin. In order to clothe Adam and Eve, God would have had to sacrifice animals and shed blood. This blood sacrifice was the first of its kind that would later be instituted formally by Moses, as a means of atonement and restitution for sins committed by anyone. God did them the greatest favor in sending them out of Eden. Had they stayed there, they would have inadvertently taken hold of the fruit of the tree of life and God forbid they would have taken hold of immortality too. Picture this -- us aging progressively but never dying! We would have been relegated to hell on earth. God in his supreme kindness gave us the gift of death which is a sweet release from earth’s sorrow and the hope of heaven, which is marked by a painless, joy filled existence.
We may not live in Eden-like perfect conditions today. In fact, we live in a world torn by war, famine, and tragedy. The God who rescued Adam and Eve continues to rescue all their sons and daughters because of His boundless and inexhaustible love and kindness.
Thought:
If God could rescue Adam and Eve from their bleak situation, He can do the same for you.
